Batna, the capital of the Aures, is situated in the north-eastern part of Algeria. The city has a semi-arid climate and features a hot-summer Mediterranian climate with dusty dry summers and cold dry winters. It receives an average precipitation of about 200 mm a year. Unlike most other cities in Algeria that do not exceed 25°C during summers, Batna has record high temperatures as high as 45°C.
